BEL, Garuda Aerospace Sign MoU to Develop Indigenous Drones for Defence and Security Forces

Partnership to support Atmanirbhar Bharat drive in unmanned aerial systems

Public sector defence major Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Garuda Aerospace to jointly develop and supply indigenous unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for the Indian defence forces, central police organisations and specialised security agencies.

The MoU was signed on January 13 in New Delhi by Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and Director of Garuda Aerospace, and Prahalad, General Manager (Marketing), BEL. Under the agreement, BEL will act as the team leader and lead bidder for projects, while Garuda Aerospace will serve as the technology and teaming partner.

The collaboration will combine BEL’s strengths in defence electronics, system integration and programme execution with Garuda Aerospace’s expertise in drone design, manufacturing and deployment. Together, the companies plan to develop mission-ready, fully indigenous drone solutions that meet the evolving operational needs of India’s defence and internal security agencies.

Officials said the partnership is aligned with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and reflects a shared focus on strengthening domestic defence manufacturing capabilities. The two companies will also enter into a separate teaming agreement to define work-sharing arrangements and responsibilities based on project requirements and procurement norms.

Agnishwar Jayaprakash said the collaboration will help scale Garuda Aerospace’s indigenous drone platforms and deliver advanced unmanned solutions for national security use. BEL, in a statement, said the partnership aims to leverage the complementary strengths of both organisations to develop reliable and scalable unmanned systems for defence and security applications.
