Sunil Paliwal Appointed Chairman of Inland Waterways Authority of India

In a significant administrative development, Sunil Paliwal, Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority and Kamarajar Port Ltd, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). The appointment elevates him to the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India, following the temporary upgradation of the post, as stated in a notification issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training, on Thursday evening.

Paliwal assumes charge from Vijay Kumar, who was recently promoted as Shipping Secretary, succeeding T.K. Ramachandran after his retirement.

His wide-ranging leadership experience across infrastructure, industry, and public utilities is expected to strengthen IWAI’s mission to enhance and modernise India’s inland water transport network.
