To enhance regional air connectivity and unlock economic opportunities in North Telangana, the Government of Telangana has sanctioned ₹205 crore for the expansion of Mamnoor Airport in Warangal. This funding is directed towards land acquisition and infrastructure upgrades that will enable the airport to support full-scale commercial operations in the near future.
The project follows the Union Government’s approval in February 2025 for the development and operationalisation of the Warangal Airport. A key regulatory hurdle—the 150 km exclusivity clause around Hyderabad Airport—was waived by the Centre, allowing the Warangal facility to proceed. With this green signal, 253 acres of land have now been earmarked for acquisition, setting the stage for large-scale development works.
The revival plan for Mamnoor Airport includes a comprehensive transformation of its existing infrastructure. The most notable upgrade will be the extension of the runway from its current 1.8 kilometres to a robust 3.9 kilometres. This enhancement will accommodate wide-bodied aircraft, including long-haul models like the Boeing 747, making the airport capable of handling high-volume domestic and potentially international traffic.
Further, the project envisions the construction of a modern terminal building equipped to manage increasing passenger flows. Advanced Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems and sophisticated navigational equipment are also part of the blueprint, ensuring higher levels of safety, operational efficiency, and service quality.
Once operational, the expanded airport is expected to bring multifaceted benefits to Warangal and its surrounding districts. The region is poised to witness a surge in tourism, trade, and industrial activity. The airport will also catalyse employment generation, infrastructure development, and real estate growth.
Warangal, one of Telangana’s fastest-growing cities, stands to emerge as the state’s next big economic and aviation hub. The Mamnoor Airport project aligns with the state’s broader vision of balanced regional development and improved intra-state connectivity.
