New Delhi, May 23, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, marking a landmark moment for investment and development in India’s North Eastern Region. The two-day summit, running from May 23-24, aims to spotlight the region as a hub of opportunity, bringing together key stakeholders, global investors, and policymakers on a unified platform.
In a significant announcement, Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani committed to investing ₹75,000 crore in the North Eastern states over the next five years. The pledge, more than double the company’s prior investments of ₹30,000 crore in the region over four decades, was made during Ambani’s address at the summit.
Highlighting the Northeast’s rapid economic growth and young demographic, Ambani unveiled a six-point commitment plan targeting multiple sectors including digital infrastructure, agriculture, renewable energy, healthcare, and sports development.
Key Highlights of Reliance’s Commitment:
- Digital Expansion: Jio aims to double its current base of 5 million 5G users and bring Artificial Intelligence to schools, hospitals, homes, and enterprises across the region.
- Agro and Retail Growth: Enhanced procurement of agricultural produce and establishment of FMCG manufacturing units to support local economies and artisans.
- Green Energy Push: Establishment of 350 integrated Compressed Biogas plants and significant solar power generation initiatives.
- Healthcare Infrastructure: Strengthening cancer care through a 150-bed facility in Manipur, genomics research with Mizoram University, and a high-end diagnostics lab in Guwahati.
- Sports Development: Creation of Olympic Training Centres across all eight states to harness sporting talent.
- Employment and Outreach: The initiatives are expected to generate over 2.5 million direct and indirect employment opportunities, positively impacting the lives of the 45 million residents of the region.
The summit also features ministerial panels, B2B and B2G meetings, startup showcases, and exhibitions highlighting policy frameworks designed to accelerate regional investment.
Calling the Northeast the “Ashta Lakshmi” of India, Ambani expressed optimism about the region’s future, likening its growth trajectory to that of Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Prime Minister Modi lauded the transformation of the Northeast from the periphery to the mainstream of India’s growth story and emphasized the Centre’s continued commitment to inclusive development.
