Prime Minister Modi Inaugurates Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025, Champions Region’s Role in National Growth

New Delhi, May 23, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Rising North East Investors Summit’ at Bharat Mandapam today, reaffirming the Central Government’s commitment to accelerating development in the Northeastern region. Addressing a distinguished gathering that included Chief Ministers of Northeastern states, Union Ministers, diplomats, top bureaucrats, and prominent industry leaders such as Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and Anil Agarwal, the Prime Minister hailed the region’s diversity as its “biggest strength.”

Highlighting the transformative journey of the Northeast, Prime Minister Modi noted that the region, once seen as a frontier marked by unrest, is now emerging as a frontrunner of India’s growth. “The Northeast is witnessing unprecedented progress. We are determined to accelerate its growth story,” he stated.

Reiterating his government’s development philosophy, the Prime Minister said, “For us, EAST is not just a direction—it stands for Empower, Act, Strengthen, and Transform. That is our mission for Eastern India, with the Northeast at its core.”

PM Modi emphasised that the government’s focus has led to enhanced connectivity, infrastructure, and investor confidence in the region. “We started an infrastructure revolution in the Northeast. Today, this region is not just a point on the map—it is a vibrant contributor to the national growth engine,” he remarked.

The two-day summit, taking place on May 23–24, is a flagship initiative aimed at showcasing the Northeast as a land of economic opportunities. It features ministerial sessions, B2G and B2B interactions, exhibitions, and presentations on investment promotion policies and initiatives by both state and central governments.

Key sectors highlighted for investment include tourism and hospitality, agro-food processing, textiles, handloom and handicrafts, healthcare, education, IT and ITeS, infrastructure, logistics, energy, entertainment, and sports.

Referring to the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi”—symbolising wealth and prosperity—the Prime Minister said the region represents the richness of India’s biodiversity, tea and bamboo economies, organic farming, petroleum reserves, sports talent, and eco-tourism potential.

Underscoring its strategic importance, he added, “For a Viksit Bharat, the development of Eastern India is imperative, and the Northeast is the most crucial part of that mission.”
