The Directorate of Information Technology (DIT), Government of Maharashtra, is at the forefront of Aadhaar Enrolment and Authentication services in the state. Designated by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as the Registrar and State Nodal Department, DIT is committed to providing seamless Aadhaar Enrolment and Update services across Maharashtra. DIT has appointed Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation Limited (MahaIT) as the Enrollment Agency (EA). With approximately 3,000 Aadhaar Kits actively operating throughout the state, DIT ensures that residents have easy access to enrolment and update services. Across the state, DIT, as the Registrar for UIDAI, manages the largest number of Aadhaar Centres.
Recognising the importance of meticulous management, DIT has engaged a dedicated team from Ernst and Young LLP, forming the UID-Project Management Unit. This team plays a pivotal role in overseeing all Aadhaar-related activities, ensuring that operations align with UIDAI’s stringent standards
In addition to its role in enrolment and updates, DIT also functions as an Authentication Service Agency (ASA) and Authentication User Agency (AUA). These roles enable DIT to provide Aadhaar Authentication and e-KYC services to a range of government departments. Presently, eleven key departments leverage DIT’s Aadhaar Authentication Services, including:

- School Education & Sports Department
- City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO)
- Department of Agriculture (PoCRA)
- Revenue and Forest Department
- Tribal Development Department (e-tribe Validity)
- Information Technology Department
- Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Department
- Directorate of Municipal Administration
- Skill Development, Employment, and Entrepreneurship Department
- Housing Department

To bolster security and compliance, DIT integrated the Aadhaar Data Vault (ADV) with a Hardware Security Module (HSM) through CDAC, Mumbai, in October 2023. This vault encrypts and securely stores Aadhaar numbers, providing a robust solution that ensures:

- Regulatory compliance with UIDAI guidelines
- Enhanced security and minimized risk of data breaches
- Centralized data management for simplified auditing
- Support for authentication and e-KYC processes
The introduction of the ADV marks a significant milestone in enhancing data security and efficient service delivery, reaffirming DIT’s commitment to safeguarding residents’ data while streamlining Aadhaar-related services.
