Govt of Maharashtra

In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle on Tuesday, the Maharashtra government transferred eight IAS officers to optimise administrative efficiency. Fisheries Commissioner Atul Patne has been appointed as Secretary (Tourism) in the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department.

Richa Bagla has been designated as Principal Secretary (Accounts & Treasury) in the Finance Department, while Anshu Sinha has taken over as Principal Secretary (Textile) in the Co-operation, Marketing, and Textile Department.

Nawin Sona, previously Principal Secretary (2) in the Public Health Department, Mumbai, will now serve as Principal Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Dr. Ramaswami N, who held the position of Secretary (Accounts & Treasury) in the Finance Department, has been posted as Secretary (ADF) in the Agriculture and ADF Department.

Virendra Singh, earlier Secretary (Textile), has been reassigned as Secretary (2) in the Public Health Department. Meanwhile, Pradeep P will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra Maritime Board, succeeding Manik Gursal, who has been posted as Metropolitan Commissioner of the Nashik Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

According to government sources, the reshuffle aims to enhance governance under the leadership of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis-led state Cabinet. Highlighting the significance of good governance, Fadnavis recently emphasized its role in achieving the state’s vision of becoming a $1 trillion economy.

While unveiling the Maharashtra District Good Governance Index, 2024, Fadnavis stated, “The progress of a state depends on the ‘Ease of Living’ there. Our government is committed to improving the quality of life for citizens through effective governance and timely delivery of services.”

He added that with the Central government’s support, the District Good Governance Index offers a detailed evaluation of governance parameters across various sectors, providing a roadmap for continued improvement. “This index is not just about rankings but identifies areas for progress. The narrow score differences between districts reflect statewide development efforts,” Fadnavis remarked.
