Amazon Web Services (AWS) has appointed Sandeep Dutta as its new president for India and South Asia, filling a key leadership position nearly a year after Vaishali Kasture stepped down as interim country head.
The announcement was made on November 4 by Jaime Valles, AWS Vice President for Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ), who had managed India operations since Kasture’s departure. Dutta, a seasoned leader from Accenture India, brings over two decades of experience in driving business transformations and is widely regarded as a thought leader in technology.
Valles praised Dutta’s expertise in India’s unique challenges and opportunities, noting that his strategic vision has empowered organizations to drive transformative change through digital innovation.

Dutta assumes this role as AWS embarks on a USD 12.7 billion investment plan in India, extending through 2030. This includes a robust expansion of data center infrastructure, projected to generate USD 23.3 billion in economic output for India’s GDP and create over 131,700 full-time jobs annually. AWS’s prior cloud infrastructure investment has already contributed Rs 30,900 crore (USD 3.7 billion) to India’s GDP and supported more than 39,500 jobs, underscoring AWS’s regional economic influence.
In line with India’s green energy ambitions, AWS is scaling its sustainability initiatives. Valles highlighted AWS’s 50 renewable energy projects across the country, expected to generate over 1.1 gigawatts of clean energy, fulfilling operational needs and aligning with national goals. With Dutta leading, AWS aims to strengthen digital and sustainable transformation across India, supporting customers and advancing the nation’s strategic objectives.
