
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, alongside ministers and top officials, inaugurated the new Excise building in the backyard of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) building on 14th February, 2024.
During the event, Chief Minister Shinde emphasized the state’s extensive infrastructural development initiatives, highlighting the pivotal role of the State Excise Department in revenue generation. Shinde stressed the importance of training department personnel for enhanced efficiency.

Among the dignitaries present were Minister of Public Works (Excluding Public Enterprises) Ravindra Chavan, State Excise Minister Shambhuraj Desai, Guardian Minister of Mumbai City Deepak Kesarkar, MLA Bharat Gogawle, and top officials from relevant departments.

In his address, CM Shinde underscored the significance of modern infrastructure projects like the recently inaugurated Atal Setu, which has significantly improved connectivity between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. He also highlighted ongoing endeavors such as the Samriddhi Highway, Metro, and road expansions, positioning Maharashtra as a frontrunner in economic growth.

Minister Desai announced plans for a training center in Vathore, Patan District, Satara, emphasizing the department’s commitment to enhancing personnel capabilities. He also outlined initiatives like the introduction of uniform allowances and recognition programs for outstanding contributions.
The Excise Department, known for its stringent actions against illegal liquor sales and organized crime, reported substantial revenues of Rs 21,500 crores last year. Minister Desai expressed confidence in surpassing this figure, with revenues already totaling Rs 19,000 crores this fiscal year.
The ceremony also honored individuals instrumental in the building’s construction, including Mithila Jadhav, Sandeep Marathe, Sanjay Ghuse, Prashant Tripathi, Sandeep Nagre, Mukund Yadav, and Shatrughan Sahu.
A brief overview of the Excise Bhavan revealed its multi-storied structure covering 6993.17 sq. meters, with facilities ranging from parking spaces and administrative offices to dedicated zones for senior officials and a heritage gallery.
The inauguration ceremony drew participation from a significant number of department officials and employees, signifying a milestone in Maharashtra’s infrastructure development endeavors.
