Following the orders from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), on April 8, Vivek Kumar Sharma, an Indian Ordnance Factories Service officer of 2002-Batch, has been selected for the appointment as Director, Ministry of Mines.

As per the DoPT order, Sharma has been selected for the appointment under the Central Staffing Scheme (CCS) for a tenure of five years from the date of commencement of the charge or until further orders. Sharma was recommended for the Central deputation by the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence.
