Rail Ministry permits m-Aadhaar as identity proof

The Ministry of Railways has decided to permit m-Aadhaar as one of the prescribed proofs of identity for travel purpose in any reserved class.


“m-Aadhaar when shown by the passenger on his/her mobile after entering the password should be accepted as proof of identity for undertaking journey in any reserved class over Indian Railways,” the Ministry of Railways said in an official statement.

Earlier only printed version was considered as a valid ID.      

m-Aadhaar, a mobile app launched by UIDAI, allows a user to download his/her Aadhaar Card. The users can also lock and unlock their biometric data that’s linked to Aadhaar via the app to secure their personal data.


The app is available for download on Google Play.
