
The Income Tax Department has extended the date of filing of income tax returns (ITRs) by August 5. July 31st was the last day for filing the returns but due to large number of applications, the Department has extended the deadline.
To facilitate e-filing of IT Returns, extension of five days has been given for e-filing of returns i.e. upto 5th August, 2017.

In view of the difficulties faced by taxpayers, date for filing of Income Tax Returns for FY 2016-17 has been extended to 5th August, 2017.

More than two crore returns have been filed electronically for the financial year 2016-17.
Earlier there were reports that the department’s e-filing website – incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in – is not functioning properly due to heavy load.
Actual linking of PAN with Aadhaar can be done subsequently before 31.08.2017. ITRs will be processed after the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN.

Taxpayers have also been asked to give information about the cash deposited aggregating to Rs. 2 lakh or more post-demonetisation, between November 9 and December 30 last year.
