Union Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha, who is an IAS officer of 1977-batch, has been given extension for a period of one year. His tenure was ending on 13 June this year. He will continue to the coveted post till 13 June 2018.

Sinha was appointed Cabinet Secretary in June 2015. This post generally comes with a two year term but in case of Sinha, it was not mentioned during his appointment, an official statement said.

Sinha had been the Power Secretary and has held many positions, starting his three-decade career in the Uttar Pradesh cadre.

In another major appointment, Dheeraj Kumar, an IAS officer of 2005-batch of Maharashtra have been posted in Uttar Pradesh for a period of three years.

N S Kang, an IAS officer of 1983-batch, Punjab, who is currently Secretary in Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disability, has been assigned additional charge of Secretary, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment till May 05, 2017.

Leena Nair, an IAS officer of 1982-batch of Tamil Nadu, currently Secretary of Ministry of Women & Child Development, has been assigned additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs till May 05, 2017.
