The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has launched a INR 2.4 crore computerisation of initiative planning permission application process.

Under this new process, the applications for special buildings will receive an electronically generated acknowledgement. After the process of verification of documents and inspection is complete and an order is passed regarding the application, the applicant will be informed of the decision through e-mail. In the first phase, the process will re-work for special buildings. On complete implementation of the project, the facility would be extended to multi-storeyed buildings and the entire process made interactive. Users would then be able to file applications electronically. With the unique password, users would be able to track the status of the file. So far, around 100 planners in the CMDA have received training in the use of the required software. This e-governance initiative will reduce the processing time and make the process transparent.
