Dinesh K Tripathi

The Centre has announced the appointment of Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi as the upcoming Chief of the Naval Staff, succeeding Admiral R Hari Kumar upon his retirement. Mr. Tripathi, born on May 15, 1964, is set to assume office on April 30, bringing with him a distinguished career spanning nearly 39 years within the Indian Navy.

A graduate of Sainik School Rewa and the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Vice Admiral Tripathi has served in various capacities, showcasing his expertise as a communication and electronic warfare specialist. His notable commands include INS Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul, along with significant operational and staff roles such as fleet operations officer of the Western Fleet and director of naval operations.

Tripathi’s career highlights also include his tenure as the commandant of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy in Kerala’s Ezhimala, as well as serving as the director general of Naval Operations from July 2020 to May 2021. Throughout his career, he has garnered recognition, being awarded the Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM), the Ati Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM), and the Nao Sena Medal (NSM).

With extensive training, including courses at the Signal School, Kochi, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and Naval Command College at the United States Naval War College, Vice Admiral Tripathi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role as the Chief of the Naval Staff.
