Tamil Nadu (India) plans to set new e-Governance agency

The Tamil Nadu Government is planning to set up new e-Governance Agency to drive e-Governance initiatives in Tamil Nadu, India.

According to government sources, the agency would be registered as a company and State IT Secretary would be chairman of the agency. Currently, the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot), under the Information Technology Department is key agency for the development of e-Governance in the state. Elcot will act as consultant and also handle procurement of hardware and software. The main work of e-Gov division of Elcot are project supervision, request for proposal preparation, preparation of scope of work, service level agreement, bid management and vendor evaluation. Elcot will work on procurement for government departments while the agency will work on e-Governance policy and standard issues. The agency will also offer services to various government departments in technology architecture, end-to-end consultancy services and training in association with its partners and consultants.
