A notification to this effect has been issued by the Cabinet Secretariat.
It was in Draft Electronics Policy, 2011, in the last October that the government had proposed to rename DIT as the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEIT). The aim of the policy is to make India the hub of electronic manufacturing.
According to the Draft Electronics Policy, demand for electronics product in the Indian market was USD 45 billion and domestic production was about USD 20 billion in 2008-09.
