While inaugurating the new e-Governance system in the University of Calicut, the Minister for IT and Industries, P K Kunhalikutty, said, that the universities in the state were lagging behind other government departments in utilising information technology.

The minister added that e-Governance system at the university will ensure transparency and speed in administration.

Later, Vice-Chancellor Prof M Abdul Salam accorded sanction to the first electronic file submitted via the new system. The keynote address was delivered by MLA, K N A Khader. According to sources, this is the first instance of a university in Kerala shifting its entire governance system to the electronic platform.


With this new e-Governance model, the entire file management and payment system in the university will get digitised. Students will be able to see the progress of their applications online. The system, costing more than `3 crore, has been implemented with the technical support of Keltron.
