Portugal government ministers presented 5000 computers to people across Portugal as part of the drive to get the whole country on-line. And a new study shows a 200 % increase in Portuguese internet access in 2006.

Fees paid by mobile phone operators for the third-generation UMTS licences have been put into a fund that will eventually guarantee broadband internet access for more than half a million people in Portugal. The assistance is focused on adults attending job skills courses, as well as school students and teachers.
