Picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) is a rapidly evolving technology that is being adopted by healthcare facilities, as part of an ongoing trend to maximize efficiency in the acquisition, storage, distribution, and interpretation of diagnostic images through the digitization of these functions. In the broadest sense, PACS is often understood as a system that is used in the digital management of medical images.
