Gujarat to Connect All Villages via Satellite
Gujarat will be the first state in India to provide high-speed connectivity through satellite-based data connections to all its 13,693 gram panchayats by July this year, enabling video, voice and data offerings in the areas of e-Governance, distance education, telemedicine, agriculture and interactive advisory and counselling services.
“Last Mile connectivity is an important part of e-Governance initiatives. We need to have a cost effective but reliable connectivity for last mile solution in order to bring Government and other services at the door step of the rural citizens” says Nivedan Sahani, Vice-President-Government and PSU Enterprises, Bharti Airtel Limited to egov magazine
The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi announced e-Connectivity to all 590 village councils in Amreli district of Saurashtra region while celebrating Gujarat’s 49th foundation day.

Karnataka which was ranked No 2 last year in e-Governance is now slipped to No 9 according to a survey, conducted by CyberMedia’s publication Dataquest, in association with research firm IDC India on the impact of e-Governance on business and laypersons. According to survey, there is lack of political stability, which is crucial to the success of e-Governance initiatives.

According to Dataquest-IDC e-Gov Survey 2008, Delhi is the best e-Governed state of 2007 followed by Goa, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Soon State Bank of India (SBI) will provide banking services through e-Gram project, the Gujarat Government-pioneered e-Gram project, which aims to provide e-Governance services in villages. SBI will provide checking of account balance, deposits, loans insurance and other banking services through the Internet.
