The Indian Railways is launching a commercial portal to deal with procurement, freight services, parcel bookings and scrap auction, apart from introducing online bidding for vacant seats in trains. In this initiative, IT majors like Satyam, Wipro and HCL have shown their keen interest for the proposed new portal. The proposed portal will be like the National Stock Exchange to facilitate transport and trade for railways. The Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) is currently developing the portal.
