Uganda Telecom has launched an Internet Protocol -based telephony, video and data system called the Next Generation Network (NGN).

Through the service, Uganda Telecom can now converge separate services such as the video, voice, data and telephony networks into one platform for its customers. The network, worth $5 million (Shs9.2 billion), was unveiled at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. NGN surpasses the EI/PBAX model of connectivity, which required a single infrastructure for one service, by providing a single network to provide a multiplicity of many services. NGN will help the business people and the public to make a lot of savings and increase profitability while enabling Uganda Telecom to increase its efficiency.
