Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated a series of landmark initiatives worth ₹42,000 crore aimed at transforming India’s agricultural and allied sectors.
Two flagship programmes — PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses — were officially launched with a combined outlay of ₹35,440 crore. Additionally, projects worth ₹5,450 crore were unveiled across agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing sectors, while foundation stones were laid for further projects valued at ₹815 crore.
Addressing the event, the Prime Minister underscored the pivotal role of farmers in building a Viksit Bharat.“Farmers have a bigger role in making India developed. The nation must become not only self-reliant in food but also an exporter of crops for the global market,” he said.
PM Modi highlighted that the recent GST rate reductions have delivered major benefits to rural India and farmers. He further pointed out the transformation witnessed in the agricultural sector over the past 11 years, contrasting it with earlier neglect.
“India’s agricultural exports have nearly doubled in 11 years. Grain production has risen by around 900 lakh metric tonnes, and fruit and vegetable output by more than 640 lakh metric tonnes. Today, India ranks first in milk production. We have implemented reforms from seeds to markets for farmers’ welfare,” he noted.
The Prime Minister called for continuous innovation and diversification, encouraging farmers to focus on pulses cultivation to strengthen India’s protein security and reduce import dependency.
He also emphasised the growing importance of allied activities — animal husbandry, fish farming, and beekeeping — in empowering small and landless farmers. Initiatives like NaMo Drone Didi have modernised fertilizer and pesticide spraying methods, making villages key beneficiaries of recent GST reforms.
The event also featured the inauguration of several key facilities, including:
- Artificial Insemination Training Centres in Bengaluru and Jammu & Kashmir
- Centres of Excellence at Amreli and Banas
- IVF Lab in Assam under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission
- Milk Powder Plants at Mehsana, Indore, and Bhilwara
- Fish Feed Plant at Tezpur under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana
The event also celebrated a significant milestone — 50 lakh farmers have joined 10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), with 1,100 FPOs recording annual turnovers exceeding ₹1 crore in FY 2024–25.
