
In a significant overhaul of the Bihar Police, the state Home Department has transferred 62 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, including 14 district Superintendents of Police (SPs). The reshuffle includes promotions, strategic reassignments, and high-profile appointments aimed at bolstering the state’s policing infrastructure.
Two DIGs have been promoted to the rank of IGs, while eight SSPs have been elevated to DIGs. Additionally, three SPs have been appointed as SSPs. Avkash Kumar, a 2012-batch IPS officer, has taken charge as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Patna, succeeding his previous role as SP CID.
Key district-level appointments include Dr. Inamul Haque Megnu as SP Arwal, Upendra Nath Verma as SP Banka, Yogendra Kumar (Madhubani), Hari Mohan Shukla (Kaimur), Lalit Mohan Sharma (Vaishali), Prerna Kumari (Navgachhia), Amit Ranjan (Sitamarhi), Madan Kumar Anand (Jamui), and Anjani Kumar (Araria).

Notably, Anand Kumar, previously SSP Bhagalpur, has been transferred to Gaya as SSP, while Hriday Kant has been appointed as the new SSP of Bhagalpur. Sushil Kumar, formerly SP Madhubani, has been promoted to SSP Muzaffarpur.

The reshuffle also highlights new roles for other key officers: Vishwajit Dayal (SP City Muzaffarpur), Alok (SP Rural Darbhanga), Shubhrank Mishra (SP City Bhagalpur), K Ramdas (SP East Patna), Vikram Sihag (SP Rural Patna), Ramanand Kumar Kaushal (SP City Gaya), and Sanjay Kumar (SP Law & Order, Patna).

Kundan Krishnan has been assigned additional responsibilities as the head of the Special Task Force (STF), focusing on organised crime and counter-terrorism operations. Amit Kumar Jain has been named Additional Director General of Police for Vulnerable Classes, ensuring the protection of marginalized communities, while Amit Raj will serve as Additional Director General of Police for Security, based in Patna.
IPS Shalini takes on dual responsibilities as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Anti-Terrorism and Security, ensuring enhanced coordination across law enforcement wings.

- Kundan Krishnan (1994-batch IPS officer) has been given the additional responsibility of heading the Special Task Force (STF).
- Amit Kumar Jain (1996-batch IPS officer) has been appointed as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Weaker Sections.
- Amit Raj is now serving as ADGP (Security), Bihar, Patna.
- Shalini Singh (1996-batch IPS officer) has taken charge as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Counter-Terrorism Arrangements, with an additional role as IGP (Security), Bihar, Patna.
- Rakesh Rathi (2003-batch IPS officer) has assumed the position of IGP, Purnia Region, and will also manage Technical Services, Communication, and the Economic Offenders Wing.
- Rajesh Kumar (2003-batch IPS officer) has been appointed as IGP, Bihar Human Rights Commission, Patna.
Other Key Transfers:
- Vinay Kumar (1991-batch IPS officer) has moved from IGP Headquarters, Patna, to IGP (Operations), STF, Bihar, Patna.
- P. Kannan has been reassigned as IGP, Railways, Bihar, Patna, from his previous role as IGP, Crime Research.
- Daljit Singh (2007-batch IPS officer) has transitioned from DIG (Robbery) to IGP, Crime Investigation Department, Patna.
- Ranjit Kumar (2007-batch IPS officer) has taken charge as IGP, Bihar Special Arms Police, Patna.
DIG and DSP Transfers:
- Sanjay Kumar (1997-batch IPS officer) has been moved from Munger to serve as DIG, Economic Offenders, Patna.
- Vikas Kumar (2020-batch IPS officer) has been reassigned from DSP, Begusarai, to DSP, Bihar, Patna.
- Navin Chandra Jha (2009-batch IPS officer) has been posted as DSP, Surveillance Investigation Bureau, Patna.
- Baburam (2009-batch IPS officer) is now DSP, Crime Investigation Department, Bihar, Patna, after his tenure as DSP, Personnel, Bihar, Patna.
This reshuffle is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening law enforcement across the state.
