Assam has taken a significant step towards advancing technology-driven manufacturing with the launch of a Digital Design and 3D Printing Centre of Excellence in Guwahati. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the facility, highlighting its role in promoting innovation, product development and entrepreneurship across the state.
The Centre of Excellence is expected to provide industries, startups and researchers with access to advanced digital manufacturing technologies, helping Assam strengthen its growing innovation ecosystem.
Boost for Innovation and Product Development
The newly inaugurated centre will offer capabilities in digital design, additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping, allowing businesses to design, test and develop products more efficiently.
The facility is expected to support a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, aerospace, energy, agriculture and advanced manufacturing. By reducing the time required to move from concept to prototype, the centre aims to encourage faster innovation and product commercialisation.
Supporting Assam’s MSME Ecosystem
The Centre of Excellence is expected to play a crucial role in empowering micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing access to technologies that were previously available only at a limited number of specialised facilities.
With advanced 3D printing infrastructure and digital design tools, local entrepreneurs and startups will be able to develop products within the state, reducing dependence on imported technologies and improving the competitiveness of Assam-based industries.
The initiative is also expected to encourage indigenous product development and support the state’s vision of building a stronger manufacturing base.
