The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Akhilesh Pathak for appointment as Director (Projects) at Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL). Pathak currently serves as Executive Director (Project Management) at the Maharatna public sector enterprise and was selected following a competitive interview process held by the board.

The recommendation marks an important step in the leadership transition at India’s largest power transmission utility, which plays a critical role in strengthening the country’s electricity infrastructure.

The recommendation was made during PESB Meeting No. 55/2026 (Minute No. 1) held in New Delhi on June 30, 2026.

The selection panel interviewed 12 senior candidates from leading public sector enterprises and government organisations before recommending Akhilesh Pathak for the board-level position.

• Deepak Jain, Executive Director (Digital Transformation), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL)
• Rajeev Kumar Singh, Chief General Manager (Gurugram), Engineers India Limited

After evaluating the candidates, the board recommended Pathak for the position of Director (Projects).

Extensive Experience in Project Management

Akhilesh Pathak is currently leading project management functions at Power Grid Corporation and has extensive experience in executing large-scale power transmission projects across the country.

Over the years, he has been associated with the planning and implementation of critical transmission infrastructure that supports India’s expanding power network. His experience in managing complex infrastructure projects is expected to strengthen the company’s project execution capabilities.

Appointment Subject to ACC Approval

Following the PESB recommendation, the proposal will now be forwarded to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval.

After the necessary vigilance and administrative clearances are completed, Pathak is expected to assume charge as Director (Projects) on the Board of Power Grid Corporation.

In his new role, he will oversee the planning, execution and expansion of the company’s power transmission projects, which are central to strengthening India’s national electricity grid.
