In a significant step towards expanding India’s metro expertise globally, Sanjay Jamuar has been appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer of Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), a newly formed arm of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
DMIL has been created with government support to take Delhi Metro’s proven capabilities beyond the capital—both across India and internationally.
A New Global Role for Delhi Metro
The newly established DMIL will focus on executing metro rail projects outside Delhi and overseas, along with providing operations and maintenance (O&M) services. It will also offer advisory support to governments, authorities, and financial institutions, helping plan and develop long-term urban transit systems.
The move signals a strategic shift to position DMRC as a global player in metro consultancy and operations.
Experienced Leadership at the Helm
Sanjay Jamuar brings decades of experience in transport systems and metro operations. A former Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer, he has worked across Indian Railways and DMRC, along with international assignments in regions such as Europe, the Middle East, the UK, and the United States.
Interestingly, Jamuar was DMRC’s first Operations & Maintenance employee when he joined in 1998—making his new role a full-circle moment in his career.
Building on a Strong Track Record
Over the years, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has built a strong reputation for efficiency and technical expertise. It is already involved in consultancy work for projects like the Dhaka Metro and handles O&M assignments in cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, and Patna.
With DMIL now in place, the organisation aims to scale these efforts and compete in the global metro market.

A Step Towards Global Expansion
The appointment of Jamuar and the creation of DMIL reflect India’s growing confidence in exporting its urban infrastructure expertise. The new entity is expected to open doors for more international collaborations while strengthening India’s presence in global transit solutions.
As cities worldwide look for efficient and sustainable transport systems, DMIL could play a key role in taking Delhi Metro’s success story to the global stage.
