The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday approved a ₹3,500 crore allocation to strengthen the state’s medical infrastructure, officials said. The decision aims to expand hospital facilities, equip health centres with modern technology, and support key public-health programmes.
The funding will be used to increase bed capacity in district and urban hospitals, install advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment, and improve emergency care services. Officials indicated that the plan also includes bolstering resources for maternal and child health, infectious disease control, and rural health outreach.
According to health department sources, the allocation is part of the state’s broader effort to enhance healthcare access and quality across both urban and rural areas. Upgrades to existing facilities are expected to reduce patient load on major tertiary hospitals and improve service delivery closer to communities.
The package includes provisions for purchasing medical devices, improving laboratory networks, and strengthening ambulance services. Health officials said that training and support for frontline healthcare workers will be a key component of the implementation strategy.
A senior state health official said, “The enhanced funding will help us bridge critical gaps in infrastructure and ensure that essential health services reach all parts of Uttar Pradesh.”
With the approval in place, the state health department will begin rolling out projects in phases, prioritising districts with limited medical resources. Officials said the first phase of upgrades and equipment deployment is expected to start early next year.
