The Assam government is preparing to introduce a computerised system for the transfer of government employees, marking a shift towards technology-led administrative processes. The announcement was made on Monday, indicating that the new mechanism will be rolled out in the near future.

The proposed system is intended to replace the largely manual process currently used for staff transfers across departments. Officials said the digital platform will be designed to bring greater transparency, consistency, and efficiency to how postings and transfers are handled.

Under the new framework, transfer decisions are expected to be processed using predefined criteria such as service tenure, departmental requirements, and vacancy positions. The move is aimed at minimising discretionary decision-making and ensuring that transfers are carried out in a structured manner.

The state government is also examining the possibility of incorporating features such as online requests and mutual transfers, allowing employees to apply through a centralised digital interface rather than multiple administrative channels.

An official familiar with the plan said, “The objective is to make the transfer process predictable and rule-based, while reducing delays and administrative burden.”

Detailed guidelines and timelines for implementation are expected to be issued after internal consultations. The government is likely to pilot the system before expanding it across departments statewide.
