RITES Ltd

State-owned engineering company RITES Ltd has secured a $3.6 million locomotive supply contract from a firm based in Zimbabwe, the company said in an update on Friday.

Under the deal, RITES — which provides transport infrastructure and consultancy services globally — will supply locomotives to support the Zimbabwean firm’s rail operations. The order is expected to strengthen the Indian public sector unit’s presence in the African market and reinforce its track record in rail asset exports.

Officials said the contract includes delivery of locomotives that meet specified performance and configuration standards, along with associated technical support and documentation. RITES will oversee coordination with local partners to ensure that the equipment meets operational requirements in Zimbabwe.

The firm’s international order book has been growing in recent years, supported by demand from rail operators seeking reliable rolling stock and engineering expertise. RITES has previously undertaken projects spanning feasibility studies, design consultancy and supply of railway assets across several regions.

A company spokesperson said, “This order reflects confidence in RITES’ engineering capabilities and our ability to deliver quality rail solutions overseas.”

With the agreement in place, RITES will begin preparations for production and logistics planning. The supply and delivery schedule will be finalised in consultation with the Zimbabwean firm, and the company expects the project to contribute positively to its financial performance in the current fiscal year.
