Maharashtra investment


In a significant boost to its industrial and economic landscape, the Maharashtra government has signed 54 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) amounting to ₹15.70 lakh crore during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. These agreements are projected to generate over 3,45,000 job opportunities across sectors like petrochemicals, textiles, infrastructure, electronics, and green energy.

One of the largest investments was made by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), with a commitment of ₹3.05 lakh crore. This venture is anticipated to create 3,00,000 jobs and span diverse sectors, including petrochemicals, renewable energy, green hydrogen, retail, data centres, and telecommunications. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) expressed gratitude to RIL, acknowledging the transformative potential of this partnership.


Amazon also announced a significant investment of ₹71,795 crore in data centres within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. This initiative is expected to generate approximately 83,100 jobs, solidifying Maharashtra’s position as a hub for technological and digital advancements.

Other notable agreements include Vardhaan Lithium’s ₹42,535 crore investment in the electronics sector, creating 5,000 jobs, and Blackstone’s ₹43,000 crore commitment to infrastructure development within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Indorama pledged ₹31,200 crore towards the textile sector, resulting in 4,000 new employment opportunities.

Further investments were made in the defence and green energy sectors. L&T Defence signed an MoU worth ₹10,000 crore to establish operations in Talegaon, creating 2,500 jobs. Renaissance Solar & Electronic Materials committed ₹5,000 crore to green energy projects, promising 1,300 jobs. Greta Energy also pledged ₹10,319 crore for projects in Chandrapur, leading to 7,000 new jobs.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, leading the state delegation comprising Industries Minister Uday Samant and senior officials, engaged in discussions with global leaders and industry representatives at the forum. He met with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to deliberate on energy and public transportation strategies.

Fadnavis also held talks with Hyundai Motors’ Executive Vice President Bum Kim, DP World President Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, and DP World India’s CEO Rizwan Somar to explore industrial parks and logistics opportunities in Maharashtra. Discussions with Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Ville Tavio, highlighted potential collaborations in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and chemicals. Plans for a “Magnetic Maharashtra” roadshow in Finland were also considered.

Moreover, Fadnavis met Jerzy Janeczko, Chief Information Officer of Lonza Group, one of the leading healthcare manufacturing organizations worldwide. This interaction underscored Maharashtra’s intent to attract investments in high-tech and healthcare manufacturing.
