Atul Gupta has assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Engineers India Limited (EIL) following approval from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG). His appointment marks a key leadership transition at the state-owned engineering consultancy and EPC company, which plays a significant role in India’s energy and infrastructure sectors.
The appointment was approved through a ministry order dated June 29, 2026, and the EIL Board of Directors formally took note of the decision during its meeting held the same day.
Appointment Effective Immediately
Gupta, who was serving as Director (Commercial) at EIL, has taken over the responsibilities of CMD with immediate effect.
According to the company’s regulatory filing, he will remain in the position until his superannuation on October 31, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

He succeeds the interim arrangement under which Praveen M. Khanooja (IA&AS), Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, was holding the additional charge of CMD following the retirement of Vartika Shukla on February 28, 2026.
Over Three Decades with EIL
A mechanical engineer by profession, Atul Gupta has been associated with Engineers India Limited for more than three decades.
He joined the company as a Management Trainee in 1992 after completing his Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar.
Over the years, he has worked across multiple technical, commercial and project management functions, gaining extensive experience in delivering large and complex engineering projects.
Wide Experience Across Energy Projects
During his career, Gupta has contributed to numerous domestic and international assignments spanning refineries, petrochemical complexes, pipelines and fertiliser projects.

He has led multidisciplinary teams involved in process engineering, procurement, engineering contracts, manufacturing, construction and project commissioning.
Before moving to the corporate office in 2007, he served at several project locations, providing him with extensive field experience in project execution.
Focus on Future Growth
As CMD, Gupta is expected to lead EIL’s strategic growth while strengthening its presence in conventional energy, petrochemicals, infrastructure and emerging sectors such as clean energy and sustainability.
