Amar Preet Singh

The government has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, the current Vice Chief of Air Staff, as the next Chief of the Air Staff. Singh will assume the rank of Air Chief Marshal from the afternoon of September 30, 2024, succeeding Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC, who is set to retire on the same date.

Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh has a distinguished career in the Indian Air Force. He took over as the 47th Vice Chief of the IAF on February 1, 2023. His journey in the IAF began in 1984, when he was commissioned into the fighter stream on December 21. Prior to commanding the Central Air Command (CAC), Singh held the position of Senior Air Staff Officer at the Eastern Air Command.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and National Defence College, Singh has served in key roles, including Flight Commander and Commanding Officer of a MiG-27 squadron and Air Officer Commanding of an air base. Throughout his illustrious service, he has been honoured with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2019 and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2023.
