In a recent development, the central government has approved extensions and promotions for six Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers serving in various ministries. The details of these appointments are as follows:

Sanjay Bandopadhyay, a 1988-batch IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been granted an extension and promoted from the post of Chairman, Inland Waterways Authority of India, Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, with a term up to August 31, 2024. He will now serve as Secretary.

Tanmay Kumar, a 1993-batch IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, has received an extension and a promotion from Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, with a term up to December 3, 2024.

Rakesh Kumar Verma, another 1993-batch IAS officer from the Punjab cadre, has been granted an extension and promoted from Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, with a term up to December 5, 2024.


D Thara, a 1995-batch IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre, has received an extension and promotion from Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, with a term up to December 5, 2024.

Nagaraju Maddirala, a 1993-batch IAS officer from the Tripura cadre, has been granted an extension and promoted from Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Coal, with a term up to November 2, 2024.

Harmit Singh Pahuja, a 2010-batch IAS officer from the Manipur cadre, has been given an extension in his central deputation tenure under the Central Staffing Scheme for an additional year, extending his term beyond November 17, 2023, up to November 17, 2024. He is presently serving as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Personnel & Training.
