Centre merges J&K cadre of IAS, IPS & IFoS with AGMUT cadre

The Union Ministry of Law and Justice, on January 7, released an official notification undersigned by the President of India stating that the Jammu and Kashmir cadre IAS, IPS & IFoS officers will now be the part of AGMUT cadre. With the orders in place, the J&K cadre officers will now be posted by the central government.

Moreover, with the J&K cadre being merged with the AGMUT cadre, the officers of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir cadre can be transferred and posted to Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and to any union territory. However, necessary modifications may be made in the corresponding cadre allocation rules by the Centre.

According to the notification, the officers allocated to the AGMUT cadre shall function in accordance with the rules framed by the Centre. The decision for merging the cadres came over a year after the Centre abrogated J&K’s special status under Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcated the state into union territories in August 2019.
