BBMP identifies 17 hotels to quarantine people with COVID19 symptoms


In a bid to cater to the growing need to quarantine or isolate people infected of COVID-19, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has identified as many as 17 hotels to serve as quarantine wards for people in need.

According to a press conference by the civic body, samples will be collected from people who develop symptoms like cold, cough, and fever to test and ascertain if they have contracted the Coronavirus. The test results take usually two days and the suspected people cannot be sent back as there is a risk of the viral spread. Therefore, around 1,300 rooms in 17 hotels have been identified by the BBMP for those people waiting for their test results.

The press release also stated that the rooms used for quarantine purposes should not have air conditioners and food provided to these people should be in disposable cutlery and crockery. Officials of the Department of Commerce and Industries will look after the food and other essential requirements of the people quarantined.


The release further added that the room rent and food charges will be provided in accordance with rates determined by the Karnataka Disaster Management Authority and based on the occupancy the funds will be released to the hotels.
