Delhi Assembly Elections on February 8 for 70 Seats


The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates of Delhi Assembly Election today, which is scheduled on Saturday, February 8, 2020. The counting of votes will be held on February 11, 2020. Sunil Arora, Chief Election Commissioner announced the dates during a press conference in the capital on Monday. The polls will be held for as many as 70 seats.

The last date to file for nominations is January 21, 2020, and the scrutiny of nominations will be on January 23, 2020. The candidates can withdraw the nominations by January 24, 2020.

A new concept of absentee voters has been introduced, which enables those voters to cast their votes who are unable to visit the polling booths owing to physical disability or unavoidable reasons.


Physically challenged and senior citizens of above 80 years of age can either vote in person or vote through postal ballot.

Accreditation of 1.87 lakh in Delhi Electorate as per electoral roll has been published with reference to January 1, 2020. The total electors in the final electoral roll of the NCT of Delhi as on 6 January 2020 are 1,46,92,136.


According to Arora, the term of current Delhi assembly expires on Feb 22, 2020. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into effect on an immediate basis. The official notification of the Delhi Assembly Election will be held on January 14, 2020.
