
Nilam Sawhney, 1984-Batch (Andhra Pradesh cadre) is likely to be appointed as Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. Sawhney was repatriated to her home state on Monday by the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet.
Upon appointment, Sawhney will become the first woman Chief Secretary of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh. Sawhney’s husband Ajay Sawhney is also an IAS officer currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
Last week, she met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy over lunch at CM’s camp office in Tadepalli, Amaravati.

Before this, Sawhney was serving as the Secretary of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment at the Centre. She also took additional charge of the post of Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs during the absence of Deepak Khandekar. Prior to that, she has also held the post of Secretary, Central Vigilance Commission.
