In a significant policy move underscoring its commitment to honouring the nation’s armed forces, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced a complete property tax exemption for homes owned by Indian Defence personnel within the gram panchayat limits. This decision, declared by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Sunday, extends the existing benefit to all active personnel regardless of their place of posting.
Previously, property tax relief was limited to retired defence personnel or those stationed at border areas. With this reform, the scope has been broadened to include all serving members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and other paramilitary forces. The exemption will apply to one residential property where the personnel or their spouse resides or has joint ownership.
In an official post on social media platform X, Pawan Kalyan stated, “This decision honours the unwavering courage of our Army, Navy, Air Force, CRPF, and paramilitary forces who dedicate their lives for the security of our nation. Their service is priceless, and we must honour it in every way possible.”
This initiative, made on the recommendation of the Director of Sainik Welfare, is part of the larger vision of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. It reflects the administration’s intention to stand in solidarity with the defence community and to formally recognise the sacrifices made by the uniformed services.
Highlighting the state’s sensitivity to the emotional and practical needs of soldiers and their families, the Deputy CM emphasised that Andhra Pradesh remains steadfast in supporting its defence personnel. He noted that this policy aims to reduce the financial burden on servicemen and their households while also acknowledging their immense contribution to national integrity and peace.

In a poignant tribute to fallen hero Murali Naik, who lost his life during cross-border firing in Jammu and Kashmir’s Line of Control under Operation Sindoor, Pawan Kalyan visited his native village of Gorantla in Sri Sathya Sai district to offer condolences. Describing Naik’s journey from a tribal hamlet to the Indian Army as a testament to patriotism and dedication, Kalyan remarked, “Murali’s sacrifice represents the spirit of countless heroes who guard our borders under the harshest conditions.”
The state government has announced an ex gratia of ₹50 lakh to Naik’s family, along with the allotment of five acres of agricultural land and a 300-square-yard house site. Additionally, the Deputy Chief Minister personally contributed ₹25 lakh to the bereaved family.
