geothermalRaipur: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will set up the country’s first geothermal power plant in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh.

For this, the Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the NTPC.


 The plant will come up at Tata Pani in the newly -formed Balrampur district, located in extreme northern region of the state.

“The power utility NTPC is expected to start the work on the project over the next two years once a detailed project report (DPR) is prepared,” a statement said.


The geothermal generation refers to the harnessing/exploitation of the geothermal energy or the vast reservoir of heat energy stored in the earth’s interior.
