The five companies are the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation, Mangalore Electricity Supply Company, Hubli Electricity Supply Company and Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company.

As an IT consultant, Reliance would study the systems and develop IT blueprints for the State Electricity Board (SEB) of Karnataka. It will prepare project reports and assist the Karnataka SEB in appointing IT implementation agencies. However, it has not disclosed the size of the contract.

Karnataka's SEB recently decided to undertake IT initiatives as a part of its Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme, and assist the SEBs in appointing IT implementation agency and evolve programme for management of IT implementation. For Reliance Infrastructure, this is its first contract in the IT consulting and power utility space.

The company also plans to use its domain expertise and experience in implementing IT infrastructure from its Mumbai and Delhi electricity distribution business. This success marks Reliance Infra's foray into IT consulting in the power utility space and going forward, we would look for IT consultancy and implementation opportunities in other states as well.
