Indian Govt. offers traffic alerts via SMS to Delhiites

Soon, citizens of Delhi will get traffic alerts on their mobile phones via SMS. The Delhi Government is planning to install a hi-tech traffic information system (TIS), which will give alerts about traffic jams and help them in avoiding jams.

The TIS system will provide information, suggestions on alternate routes and bus timings via SMS. It will also be able to provide traffic density data in the form of map. Bangalore-based Mapunity Information Services is designing the TIS system. Mapunity has a tied up with Airtel and all users of the service would show up on the TIS map. Users of the mobile service provider act as representative samples.
