The Orissa (India) State Government has decided to take e-Governance to the panchayat lavel. Under this programme, every gram panchayat would be computerised to keep accounts of the projects implemented under the panchayat accounting monitoring system and asset monitoring.

The Panchayati Raj Department has also decided to create a village accounting system to keep tabs on each project taken up in individual village under each gram panchayat. The state government has allocated INR 9.30 million for construction of office buildings. At present, 502 gram panchayats out of a total 6,234 are running from rented houses. Most of the gram panchayats in Cuttack and Jaipur districts are without permanent buildings.
