Two information technology (IT) training centres, called Telecentre and e-Care, will be established in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) under a Taiwanese project, aiming to assist local businesses in IT application.

To this effect, a Memorandum of Understanding was clinched recently between the e-Commerce Department under the Trade Ministry, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Bureau. The establishments would play a critical role in strengthening the IT competence of Vietnamese businesses. It is expected that this move will help the country to narrow down its digital divide with other countries. In 2006, the e-Care centre will also expand IT training for people from all walks of life, prioritising women, the elderly, children and disabled people.
