A comprehensive update of the Howard government's e-government (Australia) strategy has been completed, and will be considered by Cabinet as early as next month.

Special Minister of State Eric Abetz (soon to be Minister for Fisheries, Forestry and Conservation) has handed over the completed report, which is expected to be discussed in Cabinet its first few meetings in February.

Senator Abetz was pleased to have completed his report before moving on, although it will be the new Special Minister of State, Gary Nairn, who is expected to launch it later this year if it is approved by Cabinet.

Mr Nairn is out of the country until Friday.

Mr Nairn will also take control of changes to the Electoral Act, which are expected to be introduced into parliament in the early weeks of sittings.
