In a strategic move to bolster the growth of start-ups in the clean energy and deep tech sectors, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has joined forces with IIMK LIVE as part of their ‘Project Ankur’ initiative. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed by Prof. Ashutosh Sarkar, Executive Director of IIMK LIVE, and Sameet Pai, Head of Corporate Strategy at BPCL, solidifying their partnership.

The collaboration aims to cultivate and support innovative ideas with the potential to thrive as successful start-ups, creating a multiplier effect that positively impacts the entire ecosystem. IIMK LIVE will play a crucial role as one of the implementation partners of ‘Project Ankur,’ offering incubation, mentorship, and training to selected start-ups.

BPCL’s ‘Project Ankur’ initiative seeks to establish a supportive ecosystem that nurtures entrepreneurship in India by supporting pioneering concepts and ideas that can evolve into thriving start-ups. Partnering with IIMK LIVE, BPCL intends to provide vital incubation, mentorship, and training to selected start-ups, amplifying their chances of success.

Shri Sameet Pai, Head of Corporate Strategy at BPCL, expressed the company’s commitment to innovation and customer-centricity, stating, “At BPCL, we aspire to bring disruption to the energy sector and propel it towards a more sustainable future. Start-ups bring cutting-edge technology, novel perspectives, agile mindsets, and foster an entrepreneurial culture. Therefore, this collaboration with IIMK LIVE aims to identify and nurture high-quality and high-potential start-ups.”


Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIM Kozhikode and Chairman of IIMK LIVE, emphasized India’s contribution to the world in terms of knowledge and innovation. He noted, “Sustainability is another critical aspect where we, as an institute, are trying our best to develop a supportive ecosystem. This tie-up between IIMK LIVE and BPCL will boost clean energy and deep tech-based start-ups and contribute to a sustainable future.”
Under ‘Project Ankur,’ BPCL has already provided funding to over 30 impactful start-ups, including companies like Genrobotics, Detect Technologies, Anthill Creations, Cygenica, and EyeROV. These success stories underscore the transformative potential of innovation when supported by dedicated efforts.
