In a significant move towards bolstering electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in India, Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEV CSL), a Tata Power Group Company and a leading provider of EV charging solutions, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). This collaboration aims to roll out fast and ultra-fast EV charging points nationwide. Tata Power plans to install over 500 EV charging points at various Indian Oil retail outlets.
These EV charging stations will be strategically located in major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Kochi, as well as along major highways including the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Salem-Kochi Highway, Guntur-Chennai Highway, and the Golden Quadrilateral. The primary objective of this partnership is to create a reliable and extensive intercity charging network, addressing range anxiety concerns for EV owners traveling between cities.
Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development-EV Charging at Tata Power, stated, “Our partnership with Indian Oil is a strategic move towards establishing a robust EV charging network in the country. Leveraging Indian Oil’s extensive presence, Tata Power will set up fast and superfast charging points in multiple regions, contributing to accessibility and inclusivity for a sustainable electric mobility future.”

To enhance the EV user experience, Tata Power will offer the “Tata Power EZ Charge” app, while Indian Oil will provide the “Indian Oil e-Charge” mobile app. These apps will allow users to locate and book charging points conveniently.

Saumitra Shrivastava, Executive Director (Retail-N&E) at Indian Oil, emphasized the corporation’s commitment to adapting to the growing trend of electric vehicle adoption. He stated, “Indian Oil envisages providing 10,000 EV Charging Stations by 2024, transforming the retail network into complete energy solutions outlets. With more than 6,000 EV charging stations at present, the company plans to keep expanding its reach. Our strategic partnership with Tata Power is poised to play a pivotal role in responding to this transformative shift. We at Indian Oil are geared up to overcome challenges and capitalize on opportunities in this area, ensuring a seamless transition towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly mobility paradigm.”
