Prasanna Kumar Acharya has assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NLC India Limited, moving to the top leadership position after serving as the company’s Director (Finance).

He has been appointed for a five-year tenure or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
From Director (Finance) to CMD
Acharya has been associated with NLC India in a senior financial leadership role and has now taken charge of the company at the CMD level.
Earlier, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) had recommended him for the position after interviewing seven candidates for the post.

Nearly Three Decades of Experience
Acharya brings close to 30 years of professional experience across the power, mining and infrastructure sectors.

Before joining the top leadership position at NLC India, he served as Director (Finance) in the company. His career has also included key assignments with organisations such as GRIDCO, NTPC and Tata Power.
Strong Academic and Professional Background
Acharya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Honours) from Utkal University and an LLB from M.S. Law College, Cuttack. He also holds a Master of Commerce from Ravenshaw University and an MBA.
He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India and an Associate Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. He has also completed a Ph.D. from Utkal University and a Management Development Programme in Strategic Finance at IIM Lucknow.
Experience Across Power, Mining and Infrastructure
His professional experience covers power generation, transmission, distribution, mining and metro rail infrastructure.
He contributed to major infrastructure initiatives, including Phase-II of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, a project with an estimated value of more than ₹63,000 crore.
Focus on Digital Transformation at NLC India
During his tenure at NLC India, Acharya has been involved in several finance and governance initiatives. These include ERP modernisation, centralisation of finance functions, AI-enabled systems and a Vendor Invoice Management System.
He has also contributed to initiatives involving coal and critical mineral blocks, renewable energy projects and government approvals.
Supporting NLC India’s Growth Roadmap
Acharya has also played a role in NLC India‘s joint ventures with state utilities and in advancing the company’s expansion plans.
NLC India is working towards a growth roadmap targeting more than 20 GW of power generation capacity and over 100 MTPA of mining capacity by 2030, giving Acharya a broad mandate as he takes over as CMD.
