M Y Safirulla K Empanelled for Joint Secretary-Level Post at Centre

Mohammed Y Safirulla K (IAS: 2010: KL) has been empanelled for holding the post of Joint Secretary or equivalent at the Centre.

Extensive Experience in Governance and Digital Transformation

A 2010-batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, Safirulla has held several important administrative and technology-focused assignments during his career.

He is currently serving as Director, IndiaAI Mission, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), a role he took up in August 2025.

Before moving to the Centre, he served as Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala. His earlier assignments in Kerala include Special Secretary, Local Self Government Department; CEO, Rebuild Kerala Initiative; OSD, Finance (Resources) Department; Project Director, e-Health (State Digital Health Mission); Special Commissioner, State Goods and Services Tax Department; and Additional Secretary, Electronics and Information Technology Department.


He has also served as District Collector and District Magistrate, Ernakulam, Additional Commissioner, State GST Department, Deputy Secretary, Information Technology Department, and Director, Kerala State IT Mission.

Empanelment Opens Way for Central Role

With experience spanning public administration, finance, digital governance, IT, healthcare and state-level development programmes, Safirulla’s empanelment makes him eligible for consideration for Joint Secretary-level assignments at the Centre.

His experience in technology and digital governance, including his current association with the IndiaAI Mission, adds to his administrative profile as he becomes eligible for a senior central government role.
